The Summer Internship program at Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute provides an opportunity to spend a summer working side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to scientific research. For almost 50 years, New York Blood Center has provided our community with the highest quality transfusion products and services, as well as leading-edge research, technological and medical care innovation, and education in the field of transfusion medicine.
The Summer Internship Program is for students who have a keen interest in scientific research and wish to enrich their educational experience by working with our world renowned blood industry leaders. NYBC is home to 15 Laboratories, each headed by a recognized scientific Principal in that particular area of research. The wealth of knowledge contained within our structure is dedicated to life saving efforts that continuously enrich the lives of individuals around the world who are afflicted with varying blood related ailments. Those applicants interested in our internship program must be willing to work diligently with our researchers. Students have the opportunity to expand their knowledge in a selected area of study and learn a variety of research techniques though firsthand experience. At the conclusion of the internship, students are expected to present the findings of their independent projects in a formal seminar.
THE PROGRAM PROVIDES:
Mentorship and learning from New York Blood Center's full array of researchers, principal investigators, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical students whose experience will guide you through your research experiences.
QUALIFYING CRITERIA / SELECTION PROCESS: You must be an undergraduate student in an accredited University. Your major should be science oriented. Selection is based upon the students' academic credentials, extent of relevant training or experience, letters of recommendation and the congruence of the students expressed goals with the internship program. The specific start dates as well as reporting times are arranged between the supervisor and the student. However, internships are generally full time, and students should be prepared to commit to a 40 hour work week. Please note we do not provide housing or travel arrangements.
