Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are very important to NYBC and are in great demand. They are all ages, and act as public relations emissaries for NYBC. Volunteers support our mobile blood drives, our fixed sites and our administrative office needs. Volunteers may meet and greet donors at drives, sign donors in at drive registration, and perform clerical and computer work at our offices. Our volunteers get to meet interesting, caring people and travel to new locations each day. And they support a vital mission -- saving lives. Volunteer opportunities exist throughout our community.

To sign up as a NYBC volunteer in Brooklyn & Staten Island call Ellen Kramer at 718-797-7808 or by email at ekramer@nybloodcenter.org

Brooklyn Staten/Island Blood Services (BSIBS) was established in April 1999 to meet the transfusion needs of the 25 hospitals and nearly 3 million people in these two boroughs. Featuring a multilingual staff, Brooklyn/Staten Island Blood Services works with hundreds of businesses, government organizations, religious and community groups to ensure that the diversity of the blood supply reflects the diverse transfusion needs of these two communities.

There is no substitute for human blood, and it is blood donors who every day of the week save lives. We, at BSIBS, are dedicated to making donating blood a remarkable experience.

Brooklyn/Staten Island Blood Services offers a variety of venues for people wishing to donate blood. Blood drives can be hosted at a work or community site. Or donors may visit one of our permanent blood donor sites in either Brooklyn or on Staten Island. Our state-of-the-art donor coaches are also available for neighborhood events or street fairs.

To schedule a drive in your community please call Marquis Quetant at 718-797-7804.

Staten Island Opens New Donor Center
Brooklyn/Staten Island Blood Services has opened a brand new Donor Center in New Springville, near the Pergament Mall. Facing Richmond Avenue at the very front of Pergament Mall, this new center will feature plenty of free parking and extended hours for donor convenience.

Brooklyn/Staten Island 16-Year-Olds Happy to Donate Blood
Brooklyn and Staten Island teens have responded enthusiastically to a new New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) variance allowing 16-year-olds to donate blood at New York Blood Center drives. While the eligibility requirements for these younger donors are identical to those for all donors, 16-year-olds are required to submit written parental permission. These forms are available at high schools and must be submitted to the school prior to the date of the blood drive.

Sixteen-year-olds are encouraged to donate at their schools but may donate at any New York Blood Center drive. Parental permission is always required.

Brooklyn Donor Center Offers Free Parking
As of January 1, 2006, the Brooklyn Donor Center is pleased to offer up to 3 hours of free parking to all presenting donors. Donors are requested to park at Vic's Parking on Albee Square between Willoughby Street and Fulton Street. Parking stubs will be validated at the Donor Center.
